Event start date: Thursday 23rd of February!

Hello! My name is MooingCat and welcome to my strategy guide for the 2023 St Patrick's Day Event! In this guide I will go through a bunch of different strategies for the event, ranging from super chill "2 town" strategy to hectic (but rewarding) "12+ towns" strategies! This guide is a part of a series of guides and videos, you can find all the other parts here:

Strategies - Basic Concepts / Recommendations

A lot of the strategies I'm about to go over share some common concepts and recommendations, so instead of repeating those each time I will explain them here, and then explain any differences from these in the different strategies.

Druid Hut Level Sources - Grand Prizes

There are 3 different ways of getting levels for the Druid Hut:

Source Amount
Milestones 3
Grand Prizes 1 per 2 GPs
After Town Rewards 1 per 6/6 Chests

You'll always get 3 from milestones, so it's the number of levels from grand prizes and after-town rewards that differ from strategy to strategy. Below you'll find a list of available Grand Prizes. The Grand Prizes will first have a series of unique rewards, before they start looping. We believe that is from 325 to 750, but have to confirm that.

Celtic Chests - After Town Chests (how many should you buy?)

These don't really have much to do with strategy anymore, but it's worth keeping in mind what you can get when deciding your strategy. The more spare pots you have, the more selective you can be in buying chests.

How many chests should you buy after each town?. This will depend on your strategy, but let me give some general advice:

  • Do you need a Druid Hut selection kit?: Then you should buy all 6 chests using the buy all option for the discount.
  • If you don't need Druid Hut selection kit:
    • Do you have spare pots?: Then you can buy as many chests as you want, as long as you make sure you have enough spare.
    • If you don't have any spare pots: Get the free chest, then either wait or move on to the next town. If you want to wait you can close the window and then the next time you open it you get back to the chest selection screen.

After each town, one reward from each slot will be available, as can be seen at the top of the selection window. We don't know what the chances for each reward are, though in the most recent Beta update it was specifically mentioned that Tree of Patience has a higher chance than Tree of Vitality.

Pots of Gold

The core concept of different strategies is managing the number of pots you spend on managers and after-town Chests. Going heavy on tasks for grand prizes means more towns and more pots spent on managers, but also fewer pots for after town chests and selection kits from buying all 6 Chests (that doesn't necessarily mean more "good" after town rewards - but more on that later!). In total, you can get 11,200 pots for free:

  • Starting amount: 200
  • Daily Logins: 22*100 = 2200
  • Rush Quests: 35*100 = 3500
  • Daily Quests: 21*150 = 3150
  • Milestones: 750+1400 = 2150
  • Total: 11 200 pots

However, this does not account for incidents and the newsletter. Both of these are great sources of pots, last year I got 500 from the newsletter (limited to 1 world) and 1250 from incidents. Therefore, you can expect somewhere between 11k and 13k pots. Unless specified, I will base my strategies on the 11 200 number, so any pots beyond that are extra pots that you can spend on additional after-town rewards.

Quest "Cheat Sheet"

As usual, I like to note down quests you need to plan around. This is quite a subjective list of what I consider "blocker" quests, or quests you can't complete immediately, but you might struggle with other quests than I do. You can find a complete list on the fandom wiki if you want a complete list. This "cheat sheet" only includes the part of a task that I consider challenging:

Manager Levels

For most strategies, I recommend the following manager levels. This is in my opinion the optimal balance between pots spent and tasks completed.

Town 1Town 2Town 3
Festival333
Shipyard233
Hats311
Flowers232
Cake112
Drinks221
Fireworks222

Tasks Completed

With the managers listed above, you can complete up to 36 tasks in each town. However, some of these are very slow, so my base recommendation is that you complete 33, 32, and 32 tasks in towns 1, 2, and 3. This means that you skip the following tasks:

Town 1 Town 2 Town 3
22. Upgrade Cake Factory Manager to Level 3 18. Hire Level 3 Cake Factory Manager 20. Hire Level 3 Drinks Factory Manager
25. Upgrade Shipyard Manager to Level 4 33. Upgrade Flowers to Level 200 23. Upgrade Festival Manager to Level 4
36. Collect 16Q Shamrocks 35. Upgrade Shipyard Manager to Level 4 35. Upgrade buildings 200 times
37. Upgrade buildings 250 times 36. Collect 18Q Shamrocks 36. Collect 12Q Shamrocks
38. Upgrade Fireworks to Level 75 37. Generate 200B Hats in Hat Factory 37. Upgrade Drinks to Level 100
38. Upgrade buildings 200 times 38. Generate 10Q Drinks in Drinks Factory

Task 36 in towns 1/2 (collect X quadrillion shamrocks) could be completed if the timing works out better. For example, if you would get 8.4Q shamrocks in the middle of the night you can wait until the morning, completing task 36 as well :) Click the button below for a complete list of tasks:

Building Upgrade Plans

To complete the tasks above, you need to take care of when and how you level up your buildings. You can find my recommended upgrade orders in my spreadsheet: (http://bit.ly/StPatricksSheet). I have two versions of my upgrade plans:

You can also use these image versions:

Simple:

Improved:

I think the plans are quite self-explanatory: Upgrade the buildings in the order laid out (left to right), if two or more buildings are in the same column upgrade them simultaneously. The levels inside the "Upgrade X" brackets should be upgraded while the "Upgrade building X times" task is active (at latest, you'll often be able to start them earlier, which is a good thing). Other than that just collect tasks as they complete :) I've also made video walkthroughs of the guides, if you prefer video or want to see the plans in action as well!

Strategies!

Below you can find descriptions of all my different strategies!

A few words on Archdruid (vs Level 9 Druid Hut)

On beta it was possible to get Archdruid kit fragments from the after town chests, but that has now been removed. That means the only way to get these fragments for free during the event is from grand prizes: at 300, 450, and 600 tasks completed. For most people, this means getting the Archdruid during the event is not possible. Now, because the Druid Hut Level 9 gives a fragment of this kit every day, I will be basing my guides on getting the level 9 building. I will include information on how many fragments you get, but I will not focus on that. At most you have to wait 150 days for the fragments, but these are boosted by Blue Galaxy, and each 50 fragment reward you get from the event will lower the time by 50 days.

I don't like this move toward the Golden Upgrades, and it seems to be staying, but for this specific event that's the best way I can see of playing around them. Anyways, on to the strategies!

Strategies Overview!

As you can see in the screenshot below there is a wide range of strategies to go for! In the following chapters I will describe these in some more detail, but because there are so many I have split them into 4 categories:

CategoryNumber of TownsArchdruid Fragments
"Super Chill"2 - 2.50
"Standard"4 - 90
"Advanced"10 - 1350
"Archdruid"15 - 18100 - 150

The main difference between the strategies is the number of towns you complete, and thus how many tasks you are able to complete and how many times you need to buy 6/6 chests after a town for the Druid Hut Selection Kit. The more towns you do, the more pots you need for manager, and the less you can spend on chests. There is one benefit to doing many towns, though, and that's Archdruid fragments from the grand prizes.

In the "Pots Needed" section you can see that many of the strategies have 2 numbers. The first number is the minimum required pots for a level 9 Druid Hut, so as you can see for most of these strategies you will have a lot of spare pots. You can use these as you wish, I would recommend using them for more chests after towns. The second number in the "Druid Hut Lvls" and "6/6 Chests" rows indicate how many levels and the number of times you can buy 6/6 chests with the free currency. The second number in "Pots Needed" shows how much that will cost.

You can also find this in my spreadsheet: http://bit.ly/StPatricksSheet

"Super Chill": 2 - 2.5 Towns Strategies

These strategies require by far the lowest amount of effort, with both strategies you have 11 days per town. Something new this year is that the very first town only requires 1 million shamrocks to complete, which means you can complete it in minutes. The "2.5 town" strategy is technically 3 towns, but it takes advantage of this first town, so it's only really 2 full towns. That's why I've chosen to call it the "2.5 town" strategy. The "2 town" strategy treats this first town as a regular town.

With both of these strategies, your goal is to complete 75 tasks, which will give you 2 Druid Hut levels from grand prizes. Combined with 3 from milestones, you need another 4 from buying full sets of chests after towns. That's more than the number of towns you complete, which means you need to buy 2 sets of chests at least once from the same town. Luckily you will have enough pots for this, due to the low amount of pots you spend on managers, and the new discount when you buy all chests at the same time. So, let's have a quick overview of the strategies!

Strategy Druid Hut Levels 6/6 Chests Grand Prizes Tasks Golden Frags Towns Max Time/Town Tasks / Town Pots / Town Pots Needed
2-Town 9 4 2 75 0 2 (-1 Task) 1.5 Weeks 38 / 38 1000 / 1010 10410
2.5-Town 9 4 2 75 0 3 (+0 Tasks) 1.5 Weeks 7 / 34 / 34 70 / 710 / 630 8410

So where do you get the 4x 6/6 chests from?

  • "2 Town" Strategy: Buy 2 full sets of chests after each town.
  • "2.5 Town" Strategy: Buy 1 full set after each town, and 1 additional set after one of the towns (you choose when).

As for managers, both of these strategies differ slightly from my standard recommendations.

When it comes to tasks, there are some changes from standard as well:

  • "2 Town" Tasks: Complete 37 + 38 tasks (all but 1 task). You can decide which task to skip, probably the final "upgrade 250" task in town 1, or the final "upgrade 200" task in town 2. In any event, with 11 days per town you can easily do 38 tasks in both towns.
  • "2.5 Town" Tasks: In town 1, you only need to complete tasks 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, and 8, then you can complete the town. For town 2 & 3, you should complete the standard tasks, then add an additional 4 tasks. I have 3 suggestions on where to add them:
    • A) Complete task 36 + 37 in town 2 and task 35 + 36 in town 3
    • B) Complete tasks 35, 36, 37, and 38 in town 3
    • C) Complete 4 additional tasks in town 4 (will cost a few more pots).

All of the towns follow my recommended building upgrade plans, the only difference is that you do a few extra tasks in most towns, or very few tasks in town 1 of the "2.5 town" strategy. For this first town you should stop after you have completed the 7 tasks, which means you will only be unlocking festival, shipyard, hats, and festival.

"Standard": 4 - 9 Towns Strategies

These strategies are a middle ground between relatively low effort and high rewards. As you can see in the table below, all of these strategies have around 4-5k extra pots, so you have a lot to spend on additional after town chests, to get rewards like the Mountain Reserve, Heroes Tavern, Celtic Farmstead & More. Now, for all but the 9 town strategy you have to buy all chests at least once, but beyond that it's up to you how to spend them. If you want to buy all chests you should of course use the discount, but if you're only after 1 reward you could also take a chance and go 1 by 1. If you get it within the 5 first chests this is the cheaper option. Both are valid options, so I'll leave it up to you to figure out what you want to do :)

None of these strategies will give any Archdruid fragments, though with the 9-town strategy you are only missing 9 tasks, so you will be able to get 50 fragments with this strategy by doing those tasks in a final town (that you don't have to complete) - it will only take a few pots of gold and minutes to achieve.

Another point I want to mention is the first town, which only requires 1M shamrocks to complete. Because you have so many free pots of gold you are free to complete this as early as you want, though if you do it will then not count towards the towns you have to complete. You can also decide to play it like a regular town, getting all the 33 standard tasks and then moving on. Completing it early doesn't save you any time, but if you play it like a regular town you will save 6h40mins at the end of the town. Even using the first town for missing tasks won't save you much, as you could easily do this at the end of the event instead without completing the final town. So the only reason I would play the first town short is to get an additional set of after town chests to choose from - which is a valid reason to go for it :)

Strategy Druid Hut Lvls 6/6 Chests Grand Prizes Tasks Towns Max Time/Town Tasks / Town Pots / Town Pots Needed Extra Pots
4-Town 9 3 3 125 4 (-5 tasks) 5.5 days 33 / 32 / 32 620 / 710 / 630 6780 4420
5-Town 9 2 4 175 5 (+13 Tasks) 4 days 33 / 32 / 32 620 / 710 / 630 6270 4930
7-Town 9 1 5 225 7 (-7 Tasks) 75 hours 33 / 32 / 32 620 / 710 / 630 5940 5260
9-Town 9 0 6 275 9 (-16 Tasks) 58 hours 33 / 32 / 32 620 / 710 / 630 5880 5320

All of the towns follow my recommended building upgrade plans mentioned further up in this guide and in my event spreadsheet. The 4, 7, and 9 town strategies all have extra tasks, so no need to pick up any in a final town. The 5 town strategy is missing 13 tasks, so these you need to pick up from a final town (that you don't have to complete). To get these tasks I recommend the following managers: Festival 2, Shipyard 1, Hats 1, Flowers 2, Cake 1, Drinks 0, Fireworks 0. This will allow you to pick up the final 13 tasks for 180 pots. Again, after getting the tasks you do not have to complete the town, so you do not need to unlock Drinks or Fireworks.

"Advanced": 10 - 13 Towns Strategies

These strategies definitely require more effort, but also have the potential of being more rewarding! There are three main benefits to doing more towns. The first is that you can be more selective in when you spend pots of gold for after town chests. For example, if you want to get a Mountain Reserve, you only want to spend pots when it is available. If you only do 4 towns, you'll probably only get it twice, but if you do 12 towns it will probably appear 6 times on average. Of course, luck does play a big role in how often you get it. The downside of doing more towns is that you need to spend more on managers, but you still have a lot of spare pots of gold to spend.

None of the strategies in this category require you to buy all chests after any town, so it's up to you if you want to buy all from a town or two with your spare pots, or if you want to be more selective and go 1 by 1. Again, if you are only after 1 reward, it will be cheaper to go 1 by 1 if you can get it within 5 chests.

Another benefit is that you can get quite a few additional Druid Hut upgrade/selection kits. This might not be immediately beneficial for now (unless you want to spend diamonds for 2+), but you can save these for next year. If this is what you want to do, you should definitely use the discount.

The final benefit is that each of these strategies give 50 fragments for the Archdruid Upgrade Kit. This will shave off 50 days from the completion time of the Archdruid Hut.

Strategy Druid Hut Lvls 6/6 Chests Grand Prizes Tasks Golden Frags Towns Max Time/Town Tasks / Town Pots / Town Pots Needed Extra Pots
10-Town 10 0 7 325 50 10 (+2 Tasks) 53 hours 33 / 32 / 32 620 / 710 / 630 6500 4700
12-Town 11 0 8 375 50 12 (-13 Tasks) 44 hours 33 / 32 / 32 620 / 710 / 630 7840 3360
13-Town 12 0 9 425 50 13 (+4 Tasks) 40 hours 33 / 32 / 32 620 / 710 / 630 8460 2740

All of the towns follow my recommended building upgrade plans mentioned further up in this guide and in my event spreadsheet. The 10 and 13 town strategies require 2 and 4 additional tasks to be completed, which can very easily be done. Either you can do them quickly in a final town before the end of the event (that you don't have to complete), or you can do an additional task or two after some of the towns you play. As I've mentioned previously you can do these without any extra pots, it will just take a bit of extra time.

"Archdruid": 15 - 18 Towns Strategies

All three of these strategies are possible to complete in time, as I show in my videos you can complete the towns in 27, 23, and 23 hours, well below the 29 hour maximum for the 18 town strategy. However, this will mean that you sometimes have to get up at night for a minute to finish leveling buildings, possibly multiple times a night. Take this into consideration before deciding, and if this is worth it to you.

The main reason you'd want to do this many towns is to get the Archdruid fragments you need during the event. With the 15 and 16 town strategies you will get 100 fragments, and with the 18 town strategy you will get all 150 fragments that you need.

The 18 town strategy do require some additional pots, but these can easily be gained from newsletter and/or incidents.

Strategy Druid Hut Lvls 6/6 Chests Grand Prizes Tasks Golden Frags Towns Max Time/Town Tasks / Town Pots / Town Pots Needed Extra Pots
15-Town 13 0 10 475 100 15 (-10 Tasks) 35 hours 33 / 32 / 32 620 / 710 / 630 9800 1400
16-Town 14 0 11 525 100 16 (+7 Tasks) 33 hours 33 / 32 / 32 620 / 710 / 630 10420 780
18-Town 15 0 12 600 150 18 (+18 Tasks) 29 hours 33 / 32 / 32 620 / 710 / 630 11940 -740

All of the towns follow my recommended building upgrade plans mentioned further up in this guide and in my event spreadsheet. The 16 town strategy requires 7 additional tasks to be completed, which can very easily be done. Either you can do them quickly in a final town before the end of the event (that you don't have to complete), or you can do an additional task or two after some of the towns you play. As I've mentioned previously you can do these without any extra pots, it will just take a bit of extra time, which you might or might not have depending on how close to the minimum times you complete towns.

For the 18 town strategy, you are missing an additional 18 tasks. This is too slow to get from the regular towns, so here you need to start an additional town to get these 18 tasks (town 1 tasks). It will only take an hour or two to do. I recommend these managers (town 1): Festival 1, Shipyard 1, Hats 1, Flowers 2, Cake 1, Drinks 1, Fireworks 0.

Diamond Spending: Multiple Druid Huts

To get multiple Druid Huts, you should buy more chests after towns. Doing more tasks for more grand prizes is not really feasible, so pretty much all additional levels come from after town chests.

That means that you need to do 9+ towns to avoid having to buy the more expensive 2nd/3rd/etc set after towns for a 2nd building. However, you will quickly have to start buying more and more expensive chests the more Druid Huts you want. Also, the fewer towns you play, the more expensive chests you have to buy.

I have added a page in my spreadsheet where you can calculate how much X Druid Huts will cost with a given strategy, you can find it here: https://bit.ly/StPatricksDiamondGuide

One thing I want to add, is that if you need to buy all chests more times than towns in your strategy, I recommend doing town 1 as quickly as possible, completing it, and then do the X towns you were supposed to. This will essentially give you 1 extra town to buy chests after, for very few additional pots.

And that's it for this guide! If you found it helpful feel free to share it with your friends and guildmates :) If you want to learn more about this event, check out my other content on it:
